1-week trip math
Typical 1-week Bangkok backpacker generates 3-4 kg of laundry by day 5: 5 t-shirts (about 1 kg), 3 shorts/pants (1.5 kg), 7 underwear+socks (0.5 kg), 1-2 button-down or going-out shirts (0.5 kg). One wash mid-trip is enough. Options: (1) Hand-wash in hostel sink — 0 THB cost, but wet clothes won't dry in Bangkok humidity inside the room (50+ hours to dry, mildew risk). Realistic only for underwear and socks. (2) Hostel-arranged wash — 3.5 kg × 60 THB = 210 THB. Convenient. (3) Pickup-and-delivery — 3.5 kg × 200 + 100 pickup = 800 THB. Most expensive but saves 4 hours of round trips. For a 1-week trip, hostel-arranged is usually right.
2-week trip math
Two-week Bangkok / South Thailand combined trip generates more like 8-10 kg of laundry across two waves. Pattern: wash mid-trip (day 7) of 4-5 kg, second wash before flying home (day 13) of 4-5 kg. (1) Hostel-arranged twice: 8 kg × 60 THB = 480 THB total. (2) Pickup once + hostel once: 4 kg × 200 + 100 pickup + 4 kg × 60 = 1140 THB. (3) Pickup twice: 8 kg × 200 + 200 pickups = 1800 THB. For 2-week trips, mixing hostel for the bulk wash and pickup for the going-home wash (where you want everything packed neatly for the flight) makes sense — get the convenience where it matters.
1-month digital nomad math
Long-stay digital nomads (working from a Bangkok co-living or condo for 1 month) typically run weekly laundry of 5-7 kg. Total monthly volume: 22-28 kg. (1) Self-service laundromat (where available, condition-dependent): 4-5 trips × 90 minutes × 80 THB ≈ 320-400 THB monthly + 4-5 hours of your time + transport. (2) Building/condo laundry corner (40-50 THB/kg if available): 25 kg × 45 = 1125 THB. (3) Hostel-arranged equivalent at long-stay hotel: 25 kg × 60 = 1500 THB. (4) Premium pickup (with 5+ order discount): 25 kg × 180 = 4500 THB. For nomads, premium pickup at the recurring rate is usually right — your time is worth more than 100 THB/hour and the laundromat trip eats half a workday.
Hidden costs people forget
DIY hand-wash hidden cost: humid Bangkok rooms cause clothes to grow mildew within 48 hours of damp drying. The smell is permanent without re-washing. Estimate 30% of hand-washed items end up needing a second proper wash anyway. Cheap shop hidden cost: dye transfer ruins about 1 in 50 loads (someone else's red shorts run into your white t-shirts). At 70 THB/kg savings × 50 trips before encountering one, you save ~1750 THB but lose a 500 THB shirt. Pickup hidden cost: nothing — the price you see is the price you pay. The transparency is part of why premium-tier exists in this category.
What we recommend by trip type
Strict-budget 1-week: hostel-arranged or hand-wash basics (~200 THB/week). Standard 2-week: mix hostel + 1 pickup before flying home (~1000 THB total). Comfort-focused 2-week: pickup throughout (~1800 THB total). 1-month digital nomad: premium pickup at recurring rate (~4500 THB monthly). 3-month long-term: monthly recurring contract with us drops to ~3200-3600 THB monthly (better than weekly hostel-arranged). For all trip types, save 200-300 THB by sending one big load instead of multiple small loads — the per-pickup fee dominates small loads.
