Stain Removal in Bangkok

Professional stain pre-treatment included free with our wash & fold service. Honest expectations on what comes out vs what doesn't. Pickup from your hotel.

Stain pre-treatment is FREE with our wash & fold

Our standard 100 THB/kg wash & fold service includes professional stain pre-treatment for visible stains identified at sorting. No per-stain surcharge. We use enzyme-based pre-treatments and pH-balanced cleaners that target stain compounds without damaging fabric fibres. For specialist stains (set-in red wine on silk, permanent marker, bleach splatter), we may refer you to a solvent dry cleaner — see our /dry-cleaning-bangkok page for honest referrals.

Stains we handle (and how)

Honest assessment of success rates by stain type. Bangkok-specific situations (sweat from humidity, mud from rainy season) factored in.

Sweat & collar yellowing

high success

Method: Enzyme-based pre-treatment focused on collar, cuff, and underarm zones. Improves over 2-3 cleanings.

Set-in collar yellowing more than 6 months old may not fully clear — we'll tell you honestly at pickup.

Food & drink (fresh)

high success

Method: Pre-treatment with the right cleaner for stain type. Tomato sauce, soy sauce, oil-based food, soft drinks all routine.

Best results within 24-48 hours. Send laundry promptly.

Coffee, tea, red wine

moderate high success

Method: Tannin-specific stain treatment + enzyme wash. Multi-pass approach if heavy.

Red wine on white needs photo-confirmation first; results vary by fabric.

Makeup, lipstick, foundation

high success

Method: Solvent-aware pre-treatment + standard wash. Most modern makeup formulas come out in 1-2 passes.

Waterproof / long-wear formulas harder; flag at pickup so we use appropriate solvent.

Mud, dirt, street grime

high success

Method: Let dry first (don't smear wet mud), brush off, pre-treat, wash. Standard process.

Bangkok rainy season specialty — common on trousers and jeans.

Blood (fresh)

high success

Method: Cold water + enzyme-based pre-treatment. Important: never hot water (sets blood permanently).

Within 24-48 hours = high success. Older blood needs specialist + may not fully clear.

Pen ink

moderate success

Method: Solvent pre-treatment focused on the stain. Multiple passes typical.

Ballpoint usually clears; gel ink and permanent marker often don't fully reverse.

Grease & oil

moderate high success

Method: Dish-soap pre-treatment to lift hydrophobic stain, then standard wash.

Set-in oil older than 1-2 weeks much harder — send promptly.

Grass

moderate success

Method: Hydrogen peroxide pre-treatment for whites, baking soda paste for colours.

Older than 48 hours often takes 2-3 cleanings to fully clear.

Dye transfer (e.g. jeans-blue on white)

low moderate success

Method: Specialist colour-run remover. Results vary.

Time matters more than method

The single biggest predictor of stain removal success is HOW QUICKLY you send the garment. Stains bond with fabric fibres over time:

  • 0-48 hours: 80-95% removal on common stains
  • 3-7 days: 70-85% removal — still good
  • 1-4 weeks: 50-70% removal — partial
  • 1+ months: 30-50% — hard to fully clear
  • 6+ months: Often unrecoverable, even with specialist

Took a stain home from your trip and forgot? Send it now — the longer you wait, the lower the chance.

What NOT to do (common DIY mistakes)

Rub the stain

Spreads it deeper into fibres and across a wider area

Use hot water immediately

Sets organic stains (blood, sweat, food) permanently

Apply bleach on coloured fabric

Creates a new permanent bleach mark

Use coloured detergent on white

Detergent dye transfers to the fabric

Apply soap to oil/grease

Locks oil into the fibres

Iron over a stain

Heat-sets it permanently — never iron stained fabric

Wait weeks before treating

Set-in stains bond chemically and become much harder to reverse

The safe move: blot fresh stains with a clean dry cloth (no rubbing), then send to us promptly. We have the right pre-treatments for each stain type.

Stain removal FAQs

Do you charge extra for stain removal?

No — visible stains are pre-treated as part of our standard wash and fold service at 100 THB/kg. Stain pre-treatment is included automatically when our team identifies a stain at sorting. The exception: difficult specialist stains (red wine on white silk, ink on suede, set-in dye transfer) may take longer or require a specialist solvent dry cleaner — we'll quote that separately if needed before processing.

How quickly should I send for stain removal?

As soon as possible. Most stains are best treated within 24-48 hours of occurrence. Set-in stains older than 30 days bond with fabric fibres at the molecular level and become significantly harder (sometimes impossible) to fully reverse. If you spilled something today, send laundry tomorrow morning — best results. If you've had a stained shirt sitting in your suitcase for a week, send it now before it sets further.

Can you guarantee a stain will come out?

Honestly, no — we can't guarantee 100% removal of every stain. We CAN promise: (1) we'll apply the right pre-treatment for the stain type, (2) we'll use multiple passes if the first doesn't fully clear, (3) we'll tell you honestly at pickup if we suspect a stain won't fully come out so you can decide whether to proceed. Common Bangkok stains (food, drink, sweat, mud) clear in 80-95% of cases. Specialty stains (set-in red wine on white, permanent marker, bleach splatter) we'll often advise sending to a specialist instead.

What about set-in stains from months ago?

Set-in stains are harder. The chemistry: most stains are organic compounds that bond with fabric fibres over time. Within 24-48 hours, the bond is weak and stains lift easily. After 30 days, the bond is stronger and complete removal becomes unlikely. After 6+ months, complete removal is rare even with specialist treatment. For old stains, expect 60-80% improvement, not full reversal. Send a photo to us on WhatsApp with a description of when the stain happened and we'll set realistic expectations.

Should I treat stains myself before sending?

Generally no — DIY stain treatment with the wrong product often makes professional removal HARDER. Common DIY mistakes: rubbing the stain (spreads it), applying hot water (sets organic stains), using bleach on a coloured fabric (creates a new bleach stain), applying soap to oil-based stains (locks them in). The safe DIY: blot fresh stains with a clean dry cloth to absorb excess, then send to us promptly. If you absolutely must treat yourself, use cold water and a clean cloth — never rub, never use hot water, never use coloured detergent.

Which stains should I send to a specialist instead?

Send to a specialist solvent dry cleaner (DryClinique, Snow White, Patis Laundry) if: (1) The stain is on a 'dry clean only' garment with structured construction (suit jacket, tuxedo, leather). (2) The stain is on silk with hand-painted detail or fragile beading. (3) The stain is permanent marker, deep red wine on white silk, or bleach splatter — these need specialist solvent treatment. (4) The garment is high-value (designer dress, vintage piece, wedding dress). For everyday stains on everyday fabric, our service handles it. See our /dry-cleaning-bangkok page for honest specialist referrals.

Will repeated stain removal damage my fabric?

Properly applied pre-treatment is gentler on fabric than the bleach + scrubbing many DIY methods involve. We use enzyme-based pre-treatments and pH-balanced cleaners — these target stain compounds without attacking fabric fibres. The risk is much lower than the alternatives (DIY bleach, harsh detergents, multiple home wash cycles). For premium fabrics with sensitive construction, we use lighter pre-treatment and may need 2-3 passes — slower but safer. Repeated professional cleaning over years actually extends fabric life by removing accumulated soils that would otherwise weaken fibres over time.
