Don Mueang vs Suvarnabhumi — which Bangkok airport for laundry?

Jewel·Updated May 15, 2026·7 questions

Bangkok has two international airports. They're 35km apart and have different laundry logistics. Here's the comparison for transit travelers.

How far is each airport from central Bangkok?

Suvarnabhumi (BKK): ~30km southeast, 45-90 minutes by taxi depending on traffic, 30-45 minutes by Airport Link. Don Mueang (DMK): ~25km north, 30-60 minutes by taxi, 40-50 minutes by SRT Red Line + transit. Don Mueang is slightly closer to central Bangkok in optimal traffic but the SRT-to-BTS transfer is less seamless than Suvarnabhumi's direct Airport Link. For laundry pickup logistics from central hotels, both airports are workable; Don Mueang has a slight edge for early-morning departures.

Which airport is better for transit-laundry pickup?

Suvarnabhumi for most travelers. The Airport Link from Phaya Thai (15 minutes from Asoke / Sukhumvit by BTS) makes Suvarnabhumi accessible from any central Bangkok hotel within 60-90 minutes total. Don Mueang requires SRT Red Line which has fewer connection points — works well for tourists in Lat Phrao or Chatuchak areas, less convenient for Sukhumvit / Silom. For our airport handoff service, both airports work; we coordinate the rider trip to whichever airport you're departing from.

Which airport hosts more carrier transits?

Suvarnabhumi (BKK) handles ~70% of Bangkok's international flights — most of Asia, Europe, US, Middle East routes. Don Mueang (DMK) handles ~30%, primarily AirAsia and budget Asian carriers (Thai AirAsia, AirAsia X, Lion Air). Most international transit travelers go through BKK. DMK is more relevant for: budget-airline travelers, intra-Asian connections (Bali, Singapore, Manila), tourists doing Thailand internal flights to Chiang Mai or Phuket. Knowing which airport you're using determines the logistics.

Are there airport-area hotels with laundry?

Yes at both airports. Suvarnabhumi airport hotels with laundry: Hyatt Regency Suvarnabhumi (premium pricing 600-1500 THB/piece), Vismaya Suvarnabhumi (mid-range 200-500 THB/piece), Miracle Suvarnabhumi (mid-range), Top High Airport Link Hotel (basic). Don Mueang airport hotels: Amari Don Muang (mid-range), Centra by Centara (mid-range with laundry pickup arrangement). All have laundry; pricing tracks with hotel tier. For airport-area tourists with same-day needs, hotel laundry is sometimes the only option.

Should I base myself near an airport for transit laundry?

Sometimes. For 24-48 hour Bangkok stops where you fly out, basing near the airport saves transit time. Trade-offs: airport-area hotels are mostly soulless transit zones (no Bangkok experience), but flight-day logistics are easier. For 3+ day Bangkok stays, base in central Sukhumvit or Silom and accept the airport transfer at the end. For 1-day transit stays, airport-area hotel might be the right call.

What about airport-area self-service laundromats?

Sparse near both airports. Suvarnabhumi: nearest 24-hour Otteri is in Bang Phli (10 minutes by taxi from BKK). Don Mueang: closer to several Lat Phrao laundromats (15-20 minutes by taxi). Neither has a laundromat WITHIN the airport itself. For airport-area laundromat use, plan transit time both ways. For most tourists, the math doesn't work — better to use airport hotel concierge or our airport handoff service.

What about flying between Bangkok airports for laundry?

Don't. The transfer between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang takes 60-120 minutes including buffer time, and laundry isn't worth that. If you have a domestic flight from Don Mueang to Phuket and an inbound from Suvarnabhumi from your home country, do laundry at central Bangkok hotels (Sukhumvit, Silom) which are roughly equidistant from both airports. The hotel laundry math works; the airport-to-airport laundry math doesn't.
